Five ways to pay.
The upgrade is one contract. The money is another. None of these rates are offers, because SparkReady does not lend.
Education only. SparkReady is not a lender and this is not credit advice.
01The paths
01
Cash
Pay the installer from savings. No interest and no lender. A poor fit if it empties an emergency fund.
02
Personal or green loan
“Green” is marketing. Compare rate type, fees, term, security, and who holds the Australian credit licence.
03
Installer finance
The person explaining the panels may not hold the credit licence. Read the credit contract on its own. You can decline finance and still collect quotes.
04
Home-loan top-up
Often a lower rate and a much longer term, with the home as security. Smaller repayments can mean more interest. A guide cannot pick the structure.
05
Home Energy Saver Loan
NSW program. Described as zero interest, up to $15,000, for listed upgrades, if the public rules and a participating provider say yes. Not a SparkReady product.
02What to line up
- Who holds the credit licence
- Fixed or variable, fees, early repayment
- The comparison rate, and what it includes
- What the security is
- What is due if you sell or refinance
- The bill and the repayment are different piles of money
03Short answers
This guide will not rank them. A zero-interest program loan can still be the wrong fit if you are outside the rules or the cap. A long mortgage top-up can cost more interest even when the repayment looks small. Ask the licensee for their contract.
No. A percentage in the decision helper is either a figure you typed or a labelled teaching default. It is not a lender’s offer and not your rate.
